New Fresh Face at Freshair Salon!

Lindsay Capps

The team of stylists at Freshair Salon would like to introduce you to our newest edition Lindsay Capps!

Lindsay is returning to the hair design community after taking a leave to be a stay-at-home mom.  She and her husband Jason have 3 beautiful children, Jackson, Zoe Grace, and Sophie Anne.

It was in Nashville, TN that Lindsay began her hair styling career.  After completing Cosmetology School, she worked at Bishops Salon in Bellevue, an Award Winning Salon that serviced many County Music artists.  After relocating to Northwest Arkansas to be close to her family, Lindsay was a stylist at James Clarke Studio. After the birth of her 2nd child, she decided to remain at home and do freelance hair and makeup styling.

During her time away from the Salon, Lindsay has continued her art of styling doing makeup and hair for commercial shots for WalMart and Sam's.

During her free time Lindsay enjoys biking, being a mom and wife, shopping, and preparing great meals for family and friends.  Lindsay and her husband are dedicated CrossFit 540 athletes.  They attend Cross Church in Pinnacle Hills where they are actively involved in choir, small groups, and CrossKids.

We will have a full-time booth available for rent starting November 1, 2011.  We are looking for a fun, trendy, energetic stylist that gets along well with others.  Our group is a low drama, close knit family that would love to add another great stylist to our team.  Resumes will be accepted and we will be interviewing for the opening starting as soon as possible.  We prefer someone with an established clientele and experience but all may apply!

Kara is a locally grown Fayetteville girl.  She went to Fayetteville High School and then decided to go to College at Oklahoma State University where she majored in Graphic Design.  But, Kara has always had a passion for hair.  So she decided to spread her wings even further and move away and go to Cosmetology School at Paul Mitchell, The School in Colorado Springs, CO.  While in school, Kara attended Paul Mitchell advanced color, cutting and updo classes in Las Vegas, NV.  She loves to do sassy, creative cuts and has a funky flair when it comes to color.   She also specializes in updo's and has recently been trained in bikini waxing. (Ouch!)  She is now our in-house waxing specialist!  Kara is certified in the Keratin Complex treatment and the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Treatment and has taken the AlfaParf Evolution Color Class.

 On a personal level, Kara enjoys shopping, cooking, watching movies with friends, socializing, doing anything crafty, reading and, if you don't already know from the pictures on her station, she loves to spend time with her dog.  She says her hobbies are comparable to an 84 year old woman!  (Did we tell you she has a great sense of humor too?)  Kara is also involved with her church.  She attends Grace Church where she helps lead a girls Bible study.  What can we say!  She's just an all-around great girl and a very talented stylist!

First up is Miss Kylee Richardson:

Kylee Richardson has been a stylist for over 3 years now.  She attend the Career Academy of Hair Design right out of High School. From a very young age Kylee has always had a passion for hair.  As a young girl, Kylee would come to Freshair and watch the stylists work on her own mother and brother.  She was so eager to learn and take in everything she could while she was in the salon.  Now Kylee is an amazing and very talented stylist at Freshair!

Since finishing school, Kylee has furthered her education by attending The Redken Exchange in NYC.  She attend the "Best Blondes" class in October 2010.  In this 3-day session, she learned to focus on salon proven, low maintenance color techniques for beautiful brilliant blondes. She learned how to identify the right product to use for the blond you want to achieve.

The Myths and Truths About Hair

There are many hair myths that circle the globe like urban legends.  Like a new flu virus, once a hair rumor is started, it develops a life of its own and spreads like wildfire.  Some of the strand stories endure for years. 

Listed below are some of the oldest and most common hair myths along with the actual facts. 

 

Myth No. 1: Cutting Hair Makes It Grow Faster and/or Thicker

False. Shorter hair often looks and feels thicker but cutting your hair won’t alter its normal biologically determined growth rate or overall texture. 

Thin, limp or fine hair will not ever grow thicker in response to a haircut. Plump up your hair by using volume enhancing hair care products, experimenting with a hair fattening blunt cut or getting a texturizing perm or color treatment.

 

Myth No. 2: Split Ends Can Be Repaired Without Trimming

False. The only successful treatment for removing split ends is with a scissors.  While some hair care products may temporarily merge split ends together, this fix only lasts until your next shampoo.

Keep in mind damaged ends tends to grow slower than healthy, well-maintained, trimmed hair.  

 

Myth No. 3: Split Ends Will Travel

True. Uncut split ends can travel up the hair shaft towards the roots.  Tresses that are not tended to, over time, may develop splits that migrate and split all or part of the entire hair. 

Some ends can actually tear multiple times so that your split ends have splits. 

 

Myth No. 4: Hair Grows Faster On Different Parts Of The Head

True. There is some scientific evidence that the growth rate of hair may vary on different parts of the head for select people.  There is also some indication that the growth rate of hair on babies may be faster on the crown than on any other parts of the scalp.  Usually the growth rate differences are very marginal and will not impact the hair appearance in any way.

False. Although you may be born with straight, curly or wavy locks, there are many circumstances under which your hair’s ultimate texture can be permanently altered.  Pregnancy, medication, chemotherapy, age and other variables can cause your texture to be temporarily or permanently altered. 

 

Myth No. 6: Shaving A Baby’s Scalp Will Alter Their Natural Hair Texture

False. The hair that a baby is born with may or may not be the hair that they grow up with.  Shaving a baby’s head will not alter the texture of their ultimate hair nor will it cause their hair to grow faster or thicker. 

 

Myth No. 7: Coloring Hair During Pregnancy Is Harmful

False.  Although some physicians disagree, most believe that coloring the hair during pregnancy will not be dangerous to the baby. When in doubt always get your physician’s permission to color your hair during pregnancy.  Most experts believe that the key danger with hair coloring is not the application of the product to the scalp but the inhalation of the strong chemical odor.   

 

Myth No. 8:  Virgin Root Hair Should Be Treated Differently

True. The hair that is closest to the roots will react differently to the application of new hair coclor and chemical treatments.  Hair color applied directly to the roots will process differently that color applied on hair that has already been treated.

 

Myth No. 9: Blow-Drying Hair Can Cause It To Smoke 

False. This bizarre myth has been circulating for years in a number of versions. On the rare occasion that hair “smokes” it is due to the evaporation of condensation on the hair from styling gels or similar hair care products.

 

Myth No. 10: Smoking Causes Gray Hair

True.  According to J. G. Mosley of the Leigh Infirmary in Lancashire, England in an article in Science News (January 11, 1997) smokers are four times more likely to have gray hair than nonsmokers. Even worse, smoking has been conclusively linked to accelerated hair loss.

 

Myth No. 11: Sleeping With A Wet Head Causes Scalp Fungus

False.  Scalp or fungal diseases can’t be caught from sleeping with wet scalps.  Scalp fungus or infections requires prior involvement with infected sources such as humans, tainted hair care tools or animals. As an example, ringworm can be spread by infected animals. 

 

Myth No. 12: Sharing Combs And Brushes Can Spread Scalp Diseases

True.  It is a fact that lice and other parasites can be transported from scalp to scalp through the sharing of combs, brushes and other hair care tools.

 

Myth No. 13: Hair Develops Immunity To The Same Shampoo Over Time

False.  Many people swear that their hair will become immune to the benefits of the same shampoo used over time.  There is no scientific evidence to prove this myth.

 

Myth No. 14: Hair Should Be Washed Every Day

False.  There is no correct schedule for washing hair.  Every person should shampoo according to the specific needs of their hair type and texture.  While some people do benefit from a daily shampoo, others benefit from a variety of shampooing schedules.

False. How to do the Boho Braid

One of the hottest trends this summer is the very cute, very elegant and easy to do, boho braids. A boho braid is a side swept single braid that gives your coif a little edge. Boho braids work on anyone with medium to long hair. It doesn’t work that well on short hair because the braid needs to be swept across to one side and go behind the ear.
A boho braid can be included in any messy updos, including natural, soft waves, or just a messy bun. To get the messy updo with the boho braid, start by spritzing your hair with a shine enhancer after you’ve washed it, like Moroccan Oil Treatment or Glimmer Spray.

Freshair's 8 Year Anniversary!!!

Freshair has celebrated 8 years in business this month on July 1st.  We first opened our doors July 1, 2003.  We started Freshair as a small salon with 6 girls.  Since then we went from a 6 station salon to a 14 station salon!  We have just finished our expansion and we now have 15 stylists and a new boutique!  We have expanded our service menu as well!  Adding the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment, SoCap Hair Extensions and even NovaLash Eyelash Extensions.  We have enjoyed the last 8 years so much and would like to thank our wonderful and loyal clients of Freshair.  We look forward to another 8 great years of hair!
